Plan your trip from Miami International AirportWith an Avis rental car, it’s just a 20-minute drive from Miami International Airport to the centre of the city. Sitting on the edge of the Biscayne Bay, there’s a little something for everybody in Miami. This city has an eclectic mix of attractions. These include turquoise ocean waters and sandy beaches, strip malls with fantastic shopping options and an intriguing culture scene.
One of Miami’s biggest draws is its main beach. Running the entire length of downtown, it offers year-round sunshine and warm waters. Here, umbrellas and sun loungers cover the sand, and people take part in volleyball games or try their hand at water sports like windsurfing.
To see the artsy side of Miami, head further down to South Beach, the Art Deco Historic District made famous in the 1930s. The South Beach neighbourhood has long attracted models, photographers and top chefs, and the buildings here are all pastel colours and adorned in neon lights. Also in the district are many art galleries and museums. Some noteworthy museums include the Lowe Art Museum and Perez Art Museum Miami.
Visit the Fairchild Tropical Botanical Gardens for a diverse collection of palms and colourful flowers, as well as a butterfly garden. The Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is also worth visiting, thanks to its elaborate castle-like architecture and landscaped grounds. Another must-do is Little Havana; a colourful neighbourhood where you can experience the city’s Cuban lifestyle. Authentic Cuban food and plenty of Latino culture are all on offer here.

Everglades National Park
The Everglades National Park is about a 30-minute drive from Miami via US-41 West. It’s the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of urban life. The Everglades are a region of wetlands with cypress swamps, hardwood forests, and beautiful mangroves. It’s also home to many bird species and other wildlife, including alligators and crocodiles. Taking an airboat tour is one of the best ways to see the park.
Those in search of sun, sand and sea should travel to Key Largo, which is just over an hour’s drive from Miami via US-1 S. Sandspur and Caloosa beaches are the two biggest draws, and the waters here are warm all year round. Key Largo is home to the world’s largest artificial reef, and swimming, snorkelling, and kayaking can all be enjoyed here.
